If you don’t know yet, I’m sure you will soon realize that I have quite the sweet-tooth! Today I experimented with trying to make a “healthier” cookie …. perhaps I should say “a better for you” cookie. I got some help from 83 Healthy Recipe Substitutions to replace some ingredients with a healthier one.
I now give you, the Banana Chocolate Chip “better for you” Cookie!
They remind me of the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies I made!
Bake at 375* for 8-10 minutes
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup mashed bananas (about 2 bananas)
1 teas vanilla^mix the above ingredients together in a large bowl, then add the following
1 teas baking soda
1 teas salt
2 cups whole wheat flour
Just like with the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, when baked, the cookies don’t spread out. Instead, they fluff up. To encourage a shorter baking time, feel free to flatten the dough on the baking sheet! *The flatten dough is the picture on the left!
I really enjoy these, I will admit they are different from your classic chocolate chip cookie!
The banana flavor isn’t incredibly strong, just a light taste of it which goes wonderfully with the chocolate chips.
I may make these again, or I could just keep experimenting, but I give them an 9 out of 10.
