I should clarify; the Disney movie Pocahontas is what I love. Not the story, the non-historic story, or the love story.
I love her. The strength she has to follow her dreams.
To stand up to what she believes in.
Plus she gives you unrealistic dreams of what hair should do when painting with the wind.
Growing up it was my favorite movie, and as you can tell, I still really enjoy it.
“Watch Mom! I can run fast! Fast, like Pocahontas!”
I believed that for the longest time.
So many different little lessons.
I wish that I could not worry about “whats around the river bend” and instead be excited for it.
I find so much meaning in the song “Colors of the Wind“.
It just may be my theme song.
“Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they’re worth”
There are so many times I have sat outside in a tree and wished for advice from the earth.
Who doesn’t want a Grandmother Willow?
“Let it break upon you
Like a wave upon the sand
Listen with your heart
You will understand”
She has some cute sidekicks too. Even if I don’t like raccoons, Meeko is pretty cute.
All in all, this movie will be a favorite for a long time.
With it I plan on teaching my kids about respect for all kinds of life.
Whether its someone who is different from you, or the land we live on and the creatures there.
