Life is weird.
I have a hard time processing just how lucky I am.
I have a great guy, family, and friends who support me. It’s been a very stressful winter, with the worry of finding a job. Through a lot of hard work, I got a job this summer only 2.5 hours from home! This means J and I can actually see each other over the summer and visit each other on the weekends. Where am I going? This summer I will be working at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. There are some really cool things about this.
- Shenandoah is the same area J, and I are getting married at in August.
- I will be doing field interpretation and working at the Byrd Visitor Center in the center of the park.
- I am so lucky and excited that I will be working a couple days a week in the media office doing social media and publications!
Again, when I look at what is happening, I am so surprised at why these good things happen to me. It’s been stressful. First the struggle of getting the job at Shenandoah, and then finding out I have to find my own housing. Usually, the park does provide housing (they just take rent out of your paycheck). However, housing shortages is a big thing in all NPS sites. After not finding much in the local housing rentals, and negotiating with two different RV dealerships, I finally found a used camper trailer to purchase. So this summer, I’ll be taking my housing with me!
I am so thankful for the family that sold me the camper, it’s used and it’s been loved, but I think it’s gonna work great.
I have plans to give the interior a little makeover with some new paint and recovering the cushions. I hope to make it feel more like a home, and less like a camper.
